COVID 19 was declared as a pandemic of importance by the World Health Organization. There is a great need to address the various aspects of the pandemic in this situation. There is a need to take different types of rapid and valid tests to discuss the other aspects of the pandemic. An early diagnosis will increase the rate of successful treatment and also prevent the spread of the disease. The RT PCR and serologic testing are two common kinds of serologic tests that can be used for SARS-COV-2 infection detection.

The genetic information of SARS CoV2 has been available soon after the outbreak of the coronavirus infection. The designing and the development of the serologic tests were started immediately after the initial reports of the coronavirus positive samples. Similarly, the SARS COV -2 RT PCR test was also developed in several conditions.

Why the SARS COVID RT PCR test versus serologic test?

The SARS-Cov2 serological tests have several limitations that cannot be used for the immediate detection of the infection. SARS COVID RT PCR test is one using the swab of the nasopharyngeal and the oropharyngeal swabs.

There are several conditions related to the higher susceptibility to coronavirus infection. These include the underlying chronic conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular conditions and kidney disease, and more. There are situations where patients can get persistent negative RT PCR negative tests with serologic tests.

However, in many such cases, patients developed COVID symptoms and it required the development of management of the patients beyond the supportive measures for COViD 19 as they had additional conditions. In the study period, patients included the ones with various types of disease conditions.

Different types of RT PCR assays have been developed in the SARS-COV 2 pandemic. RT PCR test required those study patients should be discharged after clinical investigation.
